Pre-operative Instructions

The following instructions may be helpful when preparing for your upcoming surgery. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any last minute questions. We can be reached at Cool Springs Periodontics and Dental Implants Phone Number 615-377-7793 during regular business hours.

You should receive prescriptions for your procedure by Dr. Ridgway. Please call the office if you have any questions about your prescriptions, instructions for use or possible side effects.  

Please dress comfortably for your appointment.  You may bring your iPod or music player with small earbuds you if you desire.

If you are NOT being sedated, you may eat prior to your surgical visit.

If you ARE being sedated, DO NOT eat or drink for 6 hours prior to your treatment appointment.  

Unless otherwise directed by Dr. Ridgway, take all your usual medications on the day of the procedure.

In order to evaluate your progress and healing, we will see you for a post-operative check at 1-2 weeks following surgery.  In most cases, after surgery we will also look forward to seeing you back for a periodontal maintenance cleaning and an examination of tissue maturation about 10-12 weeks following the surgery.


Please alert the office to any allergies or sensitivities that you might have to antibiotics. You may be prescribed an antibiotic if Dr. Ridgway determines it to be necessary. Take as directed until gone. It is advisable not to take these medications on an empty stomach, as nausea may result. For women taking birth control pills, be advised that antibiotics may interfere with their effectiveness.


If you elect to use one of the following oral sedatives you must have a ride to and from the office. Please bring your remaining tablets with you.

  • Ativan (Lorazepam)
  • Valium (Diazepam)
  • Triazalam (Halcion)
